About

In Psalm 8 , David asks of God, 'Who am I that You are mindful of me?' If you see me and I look puzzled, it's because this same question often keeps me distracted...

'Expelled' Sunday, August 26, 2007 |

Have you heard about Ben Stein's new movie coming out next year? It's called 'Expelled'.

If you go to the website, the flash intro has this quote:

If people think God is interesting, the onus is on them to show that there is anything there to talk about. Otherwise they should just shut up about it.

So I'm sure the first thought through your head is, "Great, another movie bashing the intelligence of those who believe in God."

But it's actually just the opposite.

It's about how people in scientific community who question Darwinism are immediately 'expelled'. Noone is allowed to consider Darwinism.

I'm really excited about it!

There's also a blog devoted to it here

Atheism Debate: 5/5/07 on ABC Tuesday, May 01, 2007 |

A couple months ago, there was some controversy over a group of atheists who challenged people to film themselves denying the Holy Spirit and post it on YouTube in order to prove that they do not believe the teachings of the Bible.
In response, Ray Comfort called ABC and on May 5th, he and Kirk Cameron will debate with the people behind the 'Blasphemy Challenge' on national television about the existence of God.
Further, he promises not to speak use faith or the Bible in his argument .

You can read more about it here.

If you don't know who Ray Comfort is, he is pretty sharp and a great apologeticist (what word would I use there?). He hosts a cable show with Kirk Cameron called 'The Way of the Master', which is intended to educate and encourage believers to share their faith.
He does seem to fall into the trap of being fairly haughty about his experience. Sometimes I feel like his evangelism is prideful and misrepresents the love of Christ. He also is outspoken against 'The 4 Spiritual Laws' Gospel tracts that Bill Bright (founder of Campus Crusade For Christ) made famous, because he says that it is confusing, if not wrong, to tell someone that God has a wonderful plan for their life when there is so much pain and suffering in the world. I think this does more harm than good, and is probably not the best use of his time or skills... but overall he is doing awesome things for the kingdom. I have a good book he wrote called 'God Doesn't Believe in Atheists'.

So let's pray that he represents Christ well and that this debate is something that God will use to gain glory -- through the actual debate as well as all the water cooler conversations that will likely follow...

Oh, and here he explains some of the reasons why bananas are my favorite food :0)

New Planet Discovered -- Similar To Earth Wednesday, April 25, 2007 |

This is an artist's mockup of a planet that was recently discovered about 20 light-years away. They say it is the most earth-like planet that we have found so far, and that its parent start (sun) is the right brightness and distance to make our climate possible.

Watch out for those chickens? Friday, April 13, 2007 |

An article on slashdot is saying that a new study 'confirms' that birds are the modern descendants of dinosaurs, and that the DNA of chickens (of all the modern animals currently cataloged) most closely resembles that of a tyrannosaur.

Read more here

I love chickens! They taste just like tyrannosaurs....

wait...

I'm confused...

2 Things Thursday, March 15, 2007 |

The astronomy picture of the day today is amazing (below). If you don't visit that website at least twice a week, you're missing out on some of the most awesome beauty that there is.

I also thought about something on the way to work today. I was praying and thinking and talking to the Lord and I said, "I love my wife to death." And He responded, "Yes, and so do I, but I don't stop there. I love her to death and resurrection to new life... and I live in you." Good point God :0)

Earth is drenched in God's affectionate satisfaction Friday, November 10, 2006 |

Have a look at how Psalm 33 gets translated in the Message.

(The message is the work and intellectual property of Eugene Peterson. No animals were harmed in the writing of this blog post. Blah, blah, blah...)

Psalm 33 (The Message, copyright Eugene Peterson)

1-3 Good people, cheer God! Right-living people sound best when praising.
Use guitars to reinforce your Hallelujahs!
Play his praise on a grand piano!
Invent your own new song to him;
give him a trumpet fanfare.

4-5 For God's Word is solid to the core;
everything he makes is sound inside and out.
He loves it when everything fits,
when his world is in plumb-line true.
Earth is drenched
in God's affectionate satisfaction.

6-7 The skies were made by God's command;
he breathed the word and the stars popped out.
He scooped Sea into his jug,
put Ocean in his keg.

8-9 Earth-creatures, bow before God;
world-dwellers—down on your knees!
Here's why: he spoke and there it was,
in place the moment he said so.

10-12 God takes the wind out of Babel pretense,
he shoots down the world's power-schemes.
God's plan for the world stands up,
all his designs are made to last.
Blessed is the country with God for God;
blessed are the people he's put in his will.

13-15 From high in the skies God looks around,
he sees all Adam's brood.
From where he sits
he overlooks all us earth-dwellers.
He has shaped each person in turn;
now he watches everything we do.

16-17 No king succeeds with a big army alone,
no warrior wins by brute strength.
Horsepower is not the answer;
no one gets by on muscle alone.

18-19 Watch this: God's eye is on those who respect him,
the ones who are looking for his love.
He's ready to come to their rescue in bad times;
in lean times he keeps body and soul together.

20-22 We're depending on God;
he's everything we need.
What's more, our hearts brim with joy
since we've taken for our own his holy name.
Love us, God, with all you've got—
that's what we're depending on.

Sometimes I think of Abraham
How one star he saw had been lit for me
He was a stranger in this land
And I am that, no less than he
And on this road to righteousness
Sometimes the climb can be so steep
I may falter in my steps
But never beyond Your reach

Picture of the day Thursday, October 05, 2006 |

One of the most helpful things for me every day is a book I have called, "The Universe: 365 Days". It comes from the website, "Astronomy Picture of the Day".

Pictured here is Hidden Galaxy IC 342. All you gotta do is travel at the speed of light for about 7 million years and you can experience this little wonder of creation.
The book of Isaiah says that God puts every one of those stars out every night, and calls them all by name :0)

Sometimes both heaven and earth erupt Monday, October 02, 2006 |

This is a real, un-altered picture taken in Iceland in 1991. Are you anxious about something? I think of this as God laughing at my anxiety over petty little things in my life. He's saying, "Ha... yeah. I'm worried about that. Let Me just turn the Aurora on and light up this volvano real quick and we can work together and come up with a solution."
