About

In Psalm 8 , David asks of God, 'Who am I that You are mindful of me?' If you see me and I look puzzled, it's because this same question often keeps me distracted...

This is pretty funny Wednesday, March 28, 2007 |

This guy pulled a pretty funny fast one. It probably won't seem quite as ingenious if you're not a computer geek like me though:

John 2:1-12 |

This morning I read the story about Jesus turning water into wine, which, we’re told, was the first of His miracles on earth (2:11).
I have always wondered why this story is in the Bible. Except for the fact that it’s Jesus’ first miracle, which clues us into how things got started, it doesn’t seem to teach us anything. But I read it a little differently this morning...

In a weird way, wine in this story is better than water, and I think it strangely shows us the difference between life with Christ (wine) and life without (water).

Wine has flavor. Water doesn’t.

Wine has color. Water doesn’t.

Wine brings energy, intoxication, (temporal) joy. Water doesn’t.

In 1st century Israel, wine even brought health. Water could make you sick.

So, through this lens, Jesus’ first miracle was sort of a big picture look at what He does with a life. He takes our colorless, flavorless, boring, joyless, sickly lives, and brings flavor, color, eternal joy, and new life.

I also noticed that when the servants drew out the water to bring it to the master of the feast, it was still water. It became wine during the walk... during the journey.
That seems to be how He operates in our lives today. We don’t get to see the water become wine until we take the water and start to deliver it...

2 Things |

The astronomy picture of the day today is amazing (below). If you don't visit that website at least twice a week, you're missing out on some of the most awesome beauty that there is.

I also thought about something on the way to work today. I was praying and thinking and talking to the Lord and I said, "I love my wife to death." And He responded, "Yes, and so do I, but I don't stop there. I love her to death and resurrection to new life... and I live in you." Good point God :0)

Read this about a pastor who was illegally arrested, falsely accused, and sentenced by his enemies... Gospel enemies

http://www.forum18.org/Archive.php?article_id=928

Protestant pastor Dmitry Shestakov has today (9 March) been sentenced to four years' exile within Uzbekistan for his religious activity, Forum 18 News Service has learnt. Shestakov maintained his innocence throughout the trial. During his final speech, Forum 18 learnt, he told the court that despite the tears of his wife and children he forgives those who have taken action against him. Shestakov's friends have stated that there were numerous irregularities in the trial, including: an expert analysis of his sermons being illegally conducted by an Andijan University professor; forgery of documents by the Prosecutor's Office; false prosecution claims of religious services being conducted in a property not belonging to a registered religious organisation; and Pastor Shestakov being illegally charged under a Criminal Code article that was not in force when the criminal case against Shestakov was launched. Before the trial, Uzbek state-run media tried to smear Shestakov and his church.

Perspective: Indo Earthquakes Wednesday, March 07, 2007 |

There were two huge earthquakes in Indonesia yesterday. At least 70 people have died so far as a result. Did you hear about it on the news? I heard one station was just about to report it when they found out that Anna Nichole once ate a popsicle -- you know the kind that are red, white, and blue for July 4th? Yeah, those kind. So they decided to report that instead....
